I completely love Jesus! He makes me laugh and I love how he talks to Pharisee’s and people in high places. Let me tell you about a passage I love……………
So he’s hanging out at some prominent Pharisee’s house with experts in the law having dinner. Jesus decided He’s going to drop a bombshell :
“So, let me ask you, is it right that we heal on the Sabbath or not?”
HAHA!
They are silent. They look at one another uncomfortably. They shuffled in their seats.
During the silence, Jesus heals a man was suffering from dropsy right there and then in front of them.
Then he says, “If one of you has a son or an ox and he fell into a well on the Sabbath, wouldn’t you go and get a rope and help him out?”
Silence!
Man this must have been an awkward dinner party with Jesus. I love it. He just eats away and puts the truth out there, heals a guy and clamps the ‘experts of the law’s mouths shut.
He then notices more guests arriving and they immediately choose to sit in the places of honour at the table. So, Jesus decides to state the obvious and highlight it.
“When someone invites you to a feast guys, seriously, don’t go and sit at the place of highest honour. How embarrassing will that be for you when the host has to ask you to move in front of everyone because someone higher than you has arrived? You should take the lowliest place so that you may be moved up the table by your host.”
For everyone who exhalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
Then he talks about my favourite part. The part that I would like to learn the art of. The part that gets me excited. The part that is challenging and unsafe yet completely God’s heart.
“When you give a lunch or dinner, do not invite your friends, you brothers or relatives or your rich neighbours, if you do they may invite you back and you will be repaid.
But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed.
Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” AMEN!!!!!
